We are now officially in Peel Season! This term is used by Estheticians during the fall and winter months because the sunrays are less intense and direct sun exposure is minimized, making these seasons optimal for chemical peels. However, the season doesn't qualify you for Peel Season, your skin must have a healthy balance and resiliency.
Sometimes the products we use at home to address our skin concerns can create an imbalance and cause damage. I most commonly see this with skin prone to break outs. People usually purchase over the counter products that dehydrate the skin and disrupt the skin's natural protective barrier. This leaves the skin vulnerable to scarring, sensitive and the break outs may even increase. In this case, your skin may need love and treatment to return to a healthy balance prior to qualifying for a chemical peel.
Let’s talk about chemical peels! The word ‘chemical’ may sound abrasive but chemical peels are actually very beneficial for many skin concerns and are not as scary as they sound.
Chemical peels are a form of exfoliation using an acid based solution to remove dead skin cells from the top layer of the skin. These acids are the same as those used during the exfoliation process of a standard facial treatment but at a higher percentage for a deeper exfoliation. This is what creates the peel effect. This treatments helps reduces hyperpigmentation, clears breakouts, reduces fine lines and wrinkles, balance tone and texture- allowing for better product penetration revealing brighter and smoother skin.
There is a commitment to homecare that is important for the pre and post care when receiving chemical peel treatments. These prep regimens are needed to prevent adverse reactions. The post care is needed to ensure your skin is receiving the proper hydration and nourishment needed to treat your newly generated skin to achieve your ultimate skin care goal.
Interested in a chemical but unsure if you need it or qualify? I'd love to chat!
